Privacy policy

Short version: no accounts with email or password. We store only what's needed for leaderboards and leagues, and Google ads (for returning players) may use cookies (with your consent where the law requires it).

What stays on your device

Your guesses, hints and statistics are saved in your own browser (local storage). You can delete them anytime by clearing this site's data.

What we store on our server

Only if you use leaderboards or leagues: the nickname you choose, a random player ID, the leagues you create or join, and your daily results (number of guesses, solved or not). Nicknames and results are visible to other players. Please don't use your real full name, email or phone number as a nickname. Your player key stays in your browser; we store only a hashed (scrambled) version.

“Save my account” (only if you use it): a copy of your Sportle data in this browser (nickname, leagues, streaks, stats) is stored under a random code for 7 days, then deleted. Anyone with the code can restore it, so keep it to yourself.

Daily reminder (only if you turn it on): we store your browser's notification address, your time zone and the reminder hour, nothing else. Turn it off in the menu (or in your browser's site settings) and the address is deleted.

If a league's creator adds a league photo, we store a small copy of it (256×256 pixels, with hidden data such as location removed in your browser before upload). Anyone with the league code can see it. The creator can change or remove it at any time.

A league's creator can list it in the league directory. A listed league's name, photo, sport and number of members are visible to everyone (never its invite code). If you ask to join a league, its creator sees your nickname until they answer.

Advertising and cookies

We show ads served by Google AdSense to returning players (never on your first visit). Google and its partners use cookies to show ads based on your visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalised ads at Google Ads Settings, and learn more at How Google uses information from sites that use its services. Visitors from the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland are asked for consent before personalised ads are shown, and can change that choice later with the privacy and cookie choices link Google provides.

Other services

Fonts load from Google Fonts. The site is hosted by Cloudflare, which keeps standard security logs (such as IP addresses) for a limited time.

We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which uses no cookies and doesn't track you across sites. We only see totals, such as how many people visited, from which countries and on which devices.

Children

Sportle is not directed at children under 13 and we don't knowingly collect their data.

Your rights

To see or delete the nickname and results linked to your player, write to [email protected] with your nickname. Clearing your browser data removes everything stored on your device.
